Frequently asked questions
How do I start?
The first time you open the app it runs a timing check: tap the pad along to eight clicks and it measures your device’s sound delay so judgement lines up. Tap to the sound, not the screen.
Then pick a song and a difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert) and play. On a song you have not played yet, start with the recommended difficulty.
How do I play?
- Tap: tap the lane when a glowing capsule reaches the line at the bottom.
- Hold: keep holding a glass tube with light flowing through it until it ends.
- Flick: flick up from the line on a prism arrow.
- Surge: fill the meter at the top with Perfects, then tap with two fingers at once to double your points for 16 beats. Turn on Shake for Surge in Settings to fire it by shaking the device too.
Hits are graded Perfect, Great, Good or Miss. Your multiplier climbs every 10 combo up to x4 and resets on a Miss. You never fail out of a song: every song plays to the end and earns 1 to 3 stars and an S, A, B or C grade. The same guide is in the app under Settings → How to play.
How do I open the next world?
Clear songs to earn stars. Morning Glass is open from the start, Neon Current opens at 6 stars and Aurora Core at 15. There is no energy or currency.
The notes and the music feel out of sync.
Run Settings → Timing check in the app again. Offsets are stored separately for each output, such as the iPhone speaker, wired headphones and each Bluetooth headset, so when you switch headphones, run it once more with them.
Bluetooth headphones add noticeable delay, so the check matters most there. For the tightest timing, use the iPhone speaker or wired headphones.
How does Duel work?
Tap Duel on the home screen and lay the iPhone flat between two people. The screen splits in two and the top half turns to face the player across from you. Each player picks their own difficulty.
The higher score wins; a tie goes to accuracy, then max combo. Duels cannot be continued later, and their results never go to Game Center leaderboards.
How do Game Center leaderboards and achievements work?
If you are signed in to Game Center in the iPhone Settings app, your best score on each song, your star total and 10 achievements are recorded. There is no sign-in screen inside the app.
Tap Settings → Game Center in the app to see leaderboards and achievements. Everything works without Game Center, and records made while signed out are added when you sign in later.
How do I turn down haptics, sound or flashing effects?
In the app’s Settings you can switch off Haptics (a tap on each hit), Haptic beat (vibration on the song’s kick) and Sound effects separately.
If the beat-synced background pulses and glow are too much, turn on Reduce effects. If notes feel too fast or too slow, change Note speed (1 to 10).
Where are my records stored? Can I move them to another iPhone?
Only in the app’s storage on this iPhone. There is no account or server, so nothing syncs to other devices and the developer cannot see it. Leaderboard entries and achievements in Game Center follow your Apple Account.
Backing up and restoring the whole iPhone may carry the app’s data with it through iOS, but the developer cannot move or restore data for you.
How do I erase my records and start over?
Touch and hold the app icon on the Home Screen, then tap Remove App → Delete App. The app and all of its data on this iPhone are removed. Reinstalling starts again with the timing check. Scores and achievements already in Game Center are not removed. The developer holds no copy of your data, so deleted data cannot be restored.
Are there ads or in-app purchases? Do I need the internet?
No ads, in-app purchases or subscriptions, and you can play offline. The app connects to Apple’s Game Center only when you are signed in, to record leaderboards and achievements.
